HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Please join me as we say THANK YOU and good luck to our interns who have finished their work in the classroom! Miss Andrae, Miss Andi, Miss Rachel, and Miss Amy: we will miss you!

The children have been spreading holiday cheer as we've worked together on projects. They are SO excited at this time of year. Letter L, M, and N have prompted lessons on lights, music, and naughty and nice! The teachers are having a little bit of fun too! :)

Santa will be at our party on Friday, December 21st. The sign up sheet to help out with treats will be on the clipboard this week. Thanks so much for always helping to make our parties so delicious!

May your holiday be bright with the spirit of joy, love, peace, and hope. Miss Kari

FIELD TRIP

Even though Mother Nature sent snow our way, we still had a great time in the Animal Museum today. The teachers agreed that our outdoor field trips are coming to an end. :(

The children were able to see many animals that are native to Idaho. They were also able to see those that are native to Africa as well. They made some good connections to where we live and what surrounds us.

This week, for letter Ii, we played a tic-tac-toe game using upper and lower case I's instead of X and O. It was great practice not only for letter writing, but also for learning to work with a partner and cooperate. We used clear plastic folders with the game inside, and wrote with dry erase markers that wipe of easily so we were able to play over and over. You can do the same thing at home with page protectors and dry erase markers. Pick any letter your child needs to work on and take turns being either the capital or lower case letter.

We're getting excited for the holidays! I'm already listening to "what Santa is bringing"! This time of year is so magical - especially with children. WE LOVE THEM!!!!!

HARVEST BREAK

It's been an educational month at preschool during September. We made it through letters A, B, and C! Our field trip to the Apple Orchards provided some yummy fall snacks. And the gardens were so pretty. I'm glad we could spend some time there together.

Harvest Break is next week from Oct 1st - 5th. We are back to school on Monday, Oct 8th. We LOVE teaching school in October!!! What a fabulous month for us to enjoy, as nature serves up the best that this season has to offer.

October Scholastic Book Orders will be sent home on the 8th. Please order by Oct 12th. When you order online at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs you can earn free books! Our class code is GQRPN.  You can view the catalogs online.

Happy Harvest!

BIG A, LITTLE A, WHAT BEGINS WITH A?

Apples and Autumn, A A A

We have been exploring the letter Aa by learning what it looks like, how it sounds, how to write it, and what words contain it. We learned that it's a vowel - the glue that holds some words together.

We had an Apple Day on Monday. We tasted Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith apples and graphed the differences and voted on our favorites. We also finger painted apples on an apple tree. We examined the stem and core of the apple and counted the apple seeds inside. We passed the seeds around so everyone could feel them and see them up close.

We will transition that idea into harvesting apples in the autumn. We will pick up the autumn idea with some questions for the children about the changes we see during this season, as well as some fun art ideas using the beautiful amber colors of fall. WE LOVE THIS SEASON!!!

Even though we're on break, I've been ordering supplies, writing lesson plans, and thinking about the fall. Does a teacher ever REALLY take time off? Maybe here and there, but the classroom and the kids are always on our minds.

Registration is still open for the MWF and M-F afternoon classes (morning is full). If you are interested in receiving some information, give me a call! Thanks so much!

BUILDING with BLOCKS

I love to have blocks out in the classroom everyday. Sometimes we play with the classic wooden blocks, sometimes we use a type of foam or cardboard block to create structures that would make Frank Lloyd Wright proud! Is it all just fun and games? Of course it is, and then some...

When children are building they are learning math, science, language, and social skills. Imagine a toy so simple, yet it supplies exploration in volumne, size, shape, spatial relationships, cause and effect, weight properties, increased vocabulary, understanding symbols and learning how to share and work together in positive ways. WOW. That's impressive.

So get out some blocks and let your child get to work. After all, it's just child's play.

FUN AND FRIENDS IN FEBRUARY!

WOW! Two parties already and the month isn't even over. Our Valentine's day party was full of love! The children were so excited to give their friends something special. Thank you to all the parents who brought yummy treats for us to share.

Our President's day party was a blast! Lots of red, white, and blue... sparklers, balloons, homemade flags, and a fruit pizza made to look like our flag complete with strawberries and blueberries. They asked some great questions about our presidents and made some good comments. When George Washington's picture went up, one boy asked, "Is that Beethoven?" (impressive that he would know who Beethoven was!). Another boy said, "Hey! Aren't those the guys that are on the big rock?" meaning Mt. Rushmore. He had been there and wore his Junior Ranger souvenir for our party. They also remembered some important facts about what these men did for our country.

We learned a little about voting. The children took a little time to decide which classmate they would vote for to be president. One child asked, "Can I vote for myself?" Absolutely!! :)

We looked at each state in our nation and learned that there is one star for each state on our flag. Even though there are 50 different states, we're all part of one big team.

I'm proud and feel blessed to be part of this great team. And I love my little teammates that I play with during the week! Have a wonderful 3 day weekend. Enjoy some rest and sleep in time with your babies!

Mrs. Kaycee

Hello my name is Kaycee Allred. I am from Rigby, ID so not too far from little ol' Rexburg. I am a Junior at Brigham Young University-Idaho, studying Elementary Education. I worked at a preschool in Texas for two summers and my mother has her own preschool in Rigby, so I am all about Preschool aged children they are just so fun, say the funniest things, and are so smart too! I grew up on a dairy farm with four older sisters and five younger sisters and I am an identical twin as well. Numbers one, three, four (my twin) and five (me) in the line of girls are married and all but myself have one little boy. Yes there are TEN girls in my family! The most asked question when people find that out is "how many bathrooms did you have in your house?" so the answer is three and it worked out just fine we all got along (most of the time) and enjoyed the hard farm work. It was a wonderful work experience and I really learned about responsibility. I am grateful for this chance to be working with Mrs. Kari and Mrs. Julie as the M-F afternoon teachers. It has been fun thus far and I am excited for the rest of the time I will be able to get to know your children. Sorry I haven't posted till now life has been busy with my husband taking 15 credits and two jobs.

Miss Audrey

Hey, I'm Audrey Mihu, also known as Miss Audrey, and I'm a new intern here at Kinder Ready Kids. I work in the morning class and have been having a blast getting to know these kids! :) They are all so amazing and teach me new things everyday! :) I love it!
Anyway, just to let you all know a bit about me, I am a senior at BYU-Idaho. I'm majoring in Sociology and minoring in Marriage and Family Studies. I want to be able to work with children and their families when I graduate, which is why this is such a great opportunity for me. :)
I enjoy many different things, such as visiting with family and friends, watching movies, plays, and concerts, reading, singing, dancing, and of course learning! :) One day, I hope that I'll be able to make a difference in someone else's life, such as these children are making a difference in mine. :)
Thanks for all that you do! :) I look forward to working with you all! :)

Miss Julie

Hi Parents!
I'm one of the new interns working at Kinder Ready Kids Preschool! I'm assisting in the afternoon class and loving every minute of it so far! Your kids are so adorable and amazingly smart!
A little about me... My name is Julie Gardiner and I recently got married, on December 30, 2o11. Married life is great! I'm still working hard at getting my last name right when people ask... I also recently graduated BYUI with a major in Child Development and a minor in Marriage and Family Studies. My husband is in school at BYUI currently, studying Political Science and will have his Associates in April. We're both from the south (he was born and raised in Georgia and I in Alabama) and would like to end up there in the near future.
I love working with children at this age and my plan is to open up my own preschool, much like this program! I love the opportunity I've been given to work with Miss Kari and the other interns and I can't wait to get to know all your children and you as the parents better!

TEDDY BEAR PICNIC

‎"If you go out in the woods today, you better go in disguise!" Truth be told, that was one of my favorite songs as a little girl! We are having a teddy bear picnic on Thursday for the T TH class and Friday for the M-F and MWF classes. Bring your favorite teddy to class for some picnicking fun!

Can you believe this weather!! Does this mean there might be snow in July??? At least we can enjoy some extended outside play in January (a first, for sure!!). Please continue to bring a coat!

Miss Julie has joined us as an intern in the afternoon classes!! Welcome!!

Also, we are planning a field trip to the animal museum at BYU-I for the end of the month. I will send home details soon!
