HARVEST BREAK

It's been an educational month at preschool during September. We made it through letters A, B, and C! Our field trip to the Apple Orchards provided some yummy fall snacks. And the gardens were so pretty. I'm glad we could spend some time there together.

Harvest Break is next week from Oct 1st - 5th. We are back to school on Monday, Oct 8th. We LOVE teaching school in October!!! What a fabulous month for us to enjoy, as nature serves up the best that this season has to offer.

October Scholastic Book Orders will be sent home on the 8th. Please order by Oct 12th. When you order online at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs you can earn free books! Our class code is GQRPN.  You can view the catalogs online.

Happy Harvest!

BIG A, LITTLE A, WHAT BEGINS WITH A?

Apples and Autumn, A A A

We have been exploring the letter Aa by learning what it looks like, how it sounds, how to write it, and what words contain it. We learned that it's a vowel - the glue that holds some words together.

We had an Apple Day on Monday. We tasted Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith apples and graphed the differences and voted on our favorites. We also finger painted apples on an apple tree. We examined the stem and core of the apple and counted the apple seeds inside. We passed the seeds around so everyone could feel them and see them up close.

We will transition that idea into harvesting apples in the autumn. We will pick up the autumn idea with some questions for the children about the changes we see during this season, as well as some fun art ideas using the beautiful amber colors of fall. WE LOVE THIS SEASON!!!
