FIELD TRIP

Space day was a success! I will have glitter in my hair for who knows how long... but so worth it!

If you are chaperoning on the field trip I will hand you a parking pass as you pull into the lot that will allow you to park anywhere in that lot. Don't park on the street unless you have a city parking pass. Drop off is 9:45 in the Snow Lot. The turn in is on 2nd South, right next to the football stadium. Drive all the way up to the top and I will take your child from there. Pick up in the same spot at 12:00. PLEASE DONT' FORGET TO PACK YOU CHILD A LUNCH! Yay for planets!

EARTH SCIENCE

"This Pretty Planet" by Tom Chapin is our song for our new unit on the earth. We have learned about the 4 layers of the earth (crust, mantle, outer core, inner core) and about volcanoes. The children participated in a science project today - molten hot magma! We created a small scale volcanic eruption in class today by combining vinegar and baking soda. We colored the vinegar red with food coloring for a more realistic effect. We also crafted a volcanic cone with paper lava coming out. So fun! And thanks to Bill Nye the Science Guy we watched some footage of real volcanoes exploding.

Next to come: where do we fit in the solar system? Space and planets!!

Teaching children to love science at an early age provides them with a desire in the later school years to tackle those tough classes that come along. Instill a love of learning early and the world is theirs to claim.

WE DID IT!

Do you hear that sound? It's the school bell ringing! We're back in biz. And what a week it's been! Adorable kids sporting back packs and new shoes. Too cute! I've received several dinner invitations :) love it love it love it!!!

In case you didn't receive the info, scholastic book orders are open until Sept 16th. Class code: GQRPN. You can order through me or online at scholastic.com/bookclubs.

What have we done over the last couple of days? We've learned everyone's name, talked about our favorite food, learned calendar and weather songs, played on the playground, read The Kissing Hand and made our own kissing hand to give to our moms and dads, explored centers, and learned a good bye song. Whew! More to come next week!

Enjoy your long weekend.
