FAQs

"Tell me about your preschool..." Where to begin! I started the preschool in my home in 2005. It grew and grew (like children do) and with children and interns and teachers.... it became crazy. We simply needed more space. I began renting a classroom from the Madison school district in 2010. In 2013 I merged my preschool business with the school district, and now we are a district preschool. The district contracts with me to run it.

"What do you work on?" Our main focus is to help children meet developmental milestones socially, emotionally, and physically. We want kids to be kids!! Our lesson plans and themes correlate with a letter of the alphabet each week: A if for Apple, B is for Bears, for example. We like to expose them to the alphabet through a print rich environment as they prepare for school. We also work on recognizing their name and writing it, number recognition, pre-literacy activities (rhyming, memorization of nursery rhymes), pre-math activites (sorting, counting, sequencing), lots of motor skill practice, and FUN!

"How many children/teachers are in each class?" We enroll 16 children per class. We have anywhere from 4-6 teachers in the classroom.

"Do you go outside in the winter?" We try! The district has a rule that the temp needs to be at least 10 degrees for outside play. But for the little ones, we prefer it to be at least 20. It's a good idea to pack snow clothes for them, in their backpacks. If the temp goes up, we go out!!

"What does a typical day consist of?" The first 45 mins/hour is exploratory play. Centers are set up for the children to roam through, and spend as much time as they'd like. It's very child directed. When time's up, a child rings the bell, we have a quick dance party, we clean up, and prepare for snack. Our daily snack helpers pass out napkins, give squirts of hand sanitizer, and we enjoy a healthy snack together (preschool provides the snack). After snack we have a music and movement segment and then head out to the playground. When the children come in, we meet at the big circle. Our calendar and weather checkers do their jobs, and then we have our lesson. After large group, we break into smaller groups to work on an activity that reinforces the large circle lesson. We meet for a goodbye song, and that's a wrap!

"Field trips??" YES and YES! We go on at least one field trip a month. Our favorites have been the BYUI planetarium, the BYUI animal museum, BYUI Gardens, Broulims, Rexburg Library, the Nature Park, Smith Park, and the Idaho Falls Zoo. We also have the fire dept and police dept visit us for safety days.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions that you might have.
